How Can I Change My Criminal Record?
There is a special process called "Expungement" that you can use to change your criminal record. Expungement is a court process that can allow you to remove certain items from your criminal record, depending on the situation. Expunging your criminal record means that your prior conviction has been set aside. If your conviction is expunged, for most purposes, you are considered not to have been convicted.

Generally, any arrest or citation will show up on your criminal record, regardless of what happened later in court. Your record will show the arrest or citation even if:
- Your case was dismissed; or
- You were acquitted (found not guilty); or
- A Nolle Prosequi was entered in your case (prosecutor decides to drop the case); or
- The case was placed on Stet Docket (inactive group of cases, generally not reopened); or
- If you were found guilty or paid a fine after being arrested (appears as a conviction).
